“UND Formula SAE has allowed me to develop project-based engineering skills in addition to engineering coursework. In addition, I learned how to communicate technical ideas and develop solutions to solve complex problems as a group. The years of being on the team allowed me to foster my passion for engineering. When I first started, I learned a great deal working with the senior level students. As I became a senior myself, I had the honor to give back through passing on what I had learned. As a direct result of my experience on the UND Formula SAE team I decided to continue my education with a master’s degree in Automotive Systems Engineering. Without the team or it is dedicated members, I would have never discovered how fulfilling automotive engineering can be. I hope to take what I have learned at UND, in Formula SAE, and my master’s degree and start a career in the automotive industry.”- Alex  UND FSAE 2019-2021

“As a student at the University of North Dakota, I had the pleasure of being a member of the UND Formula SAE team from 2016 to 2019. One of the largest projects at UND, Formula SAE is one of the only that goes through the full engineering cycle with design, manufacture, testing and revisions. Throughout my years on the team, I was able to apply the engineering concepts and fundamentals learned in class to this large-scale project, reinforcing that knowledge. Most importantly, through various leadership positions, I gained key soft skills in project management and engineering leadership – something no class can teach appreciably. Ultimately, my experience through the UND Formula SAE team was the outstanding highlight of my college career. I cannot speak enough to the impact that the UND Formula SAE team has on the quality of engineering education in the students involved.”– Jimmy UND FSAE 2016-2019

“My three years working with the UND Formula SAE team was some of the most valuable and educational time spent while at UND for Mechanical Engineering. The project not only challenges students to think out of the box and be creative, critical engineers but it requires the project to be operated like a business. This allows students to be exposed to real world challenges that come about when building a product from start to finish. This can include anything from engineering to marketing, finance and logistics. One of my main responsibilities during my senior year was team outreach and fundraising. Taking on this role, which is normally unfamiliar territory for your typical engineering student, was both challenging and rewarding. However, I learned far more about day to day operations of a business than I ever would have being in a classroom. Having this knowledge upon graduation made me more prepared when transitioning into a full-time position. Every single role on a Formula SAE team can only help you grow and become more prepared to take on any position in a professional role. If could go back I would have joined Formula SAE on day one of freshman year.”– Brandon UND FSAE 2015-2017
